van = independence

My MS has me mostly grounded.
I really don't want to take disability.
I like work and want to work.
But, I need to raise money for a van.

Here's my whole story....
Having Multiple Sclerosis has been as much a blessing as a curse. One blessing is the many new friends I have made I would have never had a reason to meet.
Noone's fault but my own...my biggest complaint is the loss of my independence. I depended on my husband for so much especially rides everywhere when I quit driving almost three years ago because my feet just didn't work anymore. I knew of hand controls but I wasn't sure if I could do it. Along with my independence MS took my self-esteem too.
Steve and I aren't together anymore. I'm getting me back. I have been through assessments to make sure that I could do it, and see what I need in a vehicle modified for my special needs. It felt GREAT to drive again!!
I don't just want a van I really NEED a van. I need a way to go without having to depend on others for rides to work, the grocery store, doctor's offices. I know people are happy to take me places, and they would never say but it does get to be an inconvenience...not just for them, but for me as well. Not to be ugly I am very appreciative of everyone, but I would really love to be able to go to the nursing home to visit a friend spur of the moment when I wanted to not just because it was convenient for someone to take me. I hate to shop, but I want to go to the mall without forcing someone to take me. Christmas shopping this year was impossible.
I have a new wheelchair. A standing wheelchair, it is wonderful. I've been a chair for the better part of three years. I am very lucky I don't have pressure sores; this wheelchair is designed to help prevent them. I need this chair at home and at work. For now it sits at my house all day because I don't have a way to get it back and forth.
The state will help with the cost of the modifications, but not with the cost of a van. I can't afford a car payment since my divorce.
I am doing all I know to raise money to help with the purchase. I have been selling homemade Key Lime pies, saving cans, sold chances for a Swedish massage. I am nowhere near close, but I am off to a good start. I have set up a savings account for those that would like to donate help. Every bit is very much appreciated!
